THOMAS AND MCKENNA WIN IN MDI

Thirty-seven racers took part in the Mt. Desert Island time trial, the 12th race of the 2010 Maine Time Trial Series, contested on a 14-mile course in the scenic town of Tremont.

Current top two Series contenders Doug Chiasson of Athol, MA, and Fred Thomas of Cape Elizabeth both raced with Thomas placing first by flying over the course in 30:27, averaging 27.6 mph. Chiasson claimed second place with a time of 31.56 and local favorite Richard Balderelli of Trenton took third with a time of 32:50.

Competing in the series for the first time, 22 year old Claire McKenna of Stowe, VT, was the first place finisher in the women's division. She finished the course in 38:02 averaging 22.1 mph. Trenton's Ashley Stanton took second with a time of 40:43 and Kathy Fleury of Winslow claimed third with a time of 41.21.
