MITCHELL SETS NEW COURSE RECORD IN BELFAST!!

Participants in the Maine Time Trial Series were finally treated to perfect racing conditions and 52 racers took full advantage by testing their strength on the 16.2 mile course at the Belfast Bicycle Club Time Trial held on June 5.

Tim Mitchell of Ashland, MA, set a new course record with a time of 33:35 -- that's an average speed of 28.94 mph! Fred Thomas of Cape Elizabeth placed second with a time of 35:24 and Paul McMahon of Manchester, MA, won the third place prize by finishing the course in 36:54.

In the women's division, Chessell McGee of Cumberland won the race with a time of 41:05, just missing breaking the course record, set by Erin Brennan of Portland in 2009 by five seconds! Erin placed second with a time of 42:07 and Michelle Gagnon of Ellsworth came in third by finishing the course in 43:31.

This race had an exciting new division this year and acknowledged 13 first time racers which consisted of 8 women and 5 men. Award medals and flowers were given to the top 3 men and women, and ribbons were give to the top 3 in all other categories. Top 3 men and women in the first time category all got ribbons and flowers and there was an official podium this year.
